I saw your Fall vs. Autumn meme thing and my inner anguage nerd kicked in. We call Autumn Fall because the word fall comes from the Old English verb for fall, which is faellan, which draws its origins from the Indo-European word phol, which also means to fall. So yes, we do call Autumn Fall because the leaves fall down, but there’s some linguistical reasoning behind it.
