Q & A

I was thinking over your arguement, and it
spurred this idea. It’s more of a what if theory, but I was thinking, and
forgive me if I’m bothering ya, what if HRE was still alive when Germany was
born? This being based on your point that a nation can live for sometime after
dissolution. So what if there was still enough for HR to still be present when
Germany was born in a separate body, and he died sometime after his birth.
Would that even be possible? lol As I said, crazy theory.

You’re not bothering me!
I account for this in my Holy Rome theory [x].

The fact that Germany is
born as a young child because he had an existing body can be taken literally.
The existing body was Holy Rome; he suffered from amnesia after switching
titles, having become Germany.

It explains why they’re
the same age, why they look exactly alike,  and why they’re both wearing nightgowns (Holy
Rome was sick and didn’t die right after his dissolution; I propose that he’s
in a nightgown because he’s standing up from his bed for the first time + he’s
also coming out of hiding given that he was secretly being held in Prussia’s
house).

Yes, I’m aware that a nightgown is a device used to convey youth in the series. However, in this instance, Holy Rome being sick and wearing a nightgown could also be foreshadowing his rebirth.

Do you think a nation’s physical strength is
proportional to its military strength( It’s a headcanon of mine)….I want your
opinion

You’re on the right track, but you have to think about what causes the military strength.

It’s predicated on their economic and political strength overall. Longer post
on this with more proof here [x].

Hey, i have a question that’s been bugging me
for quite a while. It’s about America and Canada. As i’ve seen in your
theories, America grew up alone, but then i’ve seen other material that states
that America and Canada grew up together. There’s a kind of contradiction
between these two materials. Can you tell me which one of them is the true one?
Thanks!

It is a contradiction. You’re right. But, it can also be worked around. Canada and America were
introduced to each other by England, but they were also able to travel on foot for
their own visits.

Canada’s statement of
them having been together since they were born could just be a messy way of
saying that they’ve known each other for so long.

out of all the countries who do you think is
the most lonely?

Probably England. His
characterization is very much invested in his alienation from other nations,
both emotionally and geographically.

Okay I swear on my life,
I’ve read a comic strip where Taiwan takes Vietnam to this meeting among anime
fans for subs vs dubs and Vietnam is disappointed saying something like “Oh
it’s a bunch of anime fans.” Like did I dream that??

No lol. It’s from Volume
6.

Q & A

Hello. Is America actually fat? He is obviously
has some worries about this. He doesn’t like his body? Is he heavy because of
this or is this just muscles and America’s paranoia?

He’s not overweight, but
he thinks he is. He’s just big-boned and doesn’t understand that they’re
muscles. Longer post on that here [x].

Hey, if it’s no trouble, could you mind
offering some characterization advice in regards to Russia? His canon
personality is already hard to get a grasp on, and it gets even harder when you
try writing him in more slice-of-life situations such as Human AUs. Is there a
way to ‘tone down’ his unstable personality while still keeping him in
character?

I don’t give direct
advice for characterizations. It’s just awkward for me to tell someone how they
should interpret and write a character. I can offer tools that are useful to
include in your writing, but I don’t push it.
Human AUs are more lenient anyway, since it’s not canonverse.

Sorry, I just had to.

If there are no Canon ships, why say HRE x
Chibitalia are one when they aren’t really either (I think, and hoping, Hima
changed his mind on
that cause
that closeness was uncomfortable, and slightly offensive. No offense to those
who do ship.)

They are canon. They had
mutual romantic feelings for each other, even though  Holy Rome mistook Chibitalia’s gender. It was an innocent childhood first love that ended with a kiss and nothing more. They shouldn’t be actively shipped because they’re children, obviously.

About the Gay-gun strip: There is a
“Beep” about America’s head… does that mean he fired it at
himself?? (Sometimes I have a hard time understanding Hima…)

I’d assume so, yeah lmao.

As far as I know, the post where Sweden was
confirmed to be gay has been deleted by Himaruya later. Do you think this still
makes Sweden’s sexuality 100% canon or around 50% canon?

Last time I’m answering
this. It was canon but was later deleted. Himaruya said that Sweden was homosexual but only for Finland. Some people still consider it  to be canon. Others don’t. It’s a big grey area in the fandom with no clear answer.

Hey umm i have noticed somethings, first why is Germany able to see the dead so easily even thought he doesn’t seem to have any supernatural abilities?(I know they might be visiting him but all visits we have seen (like from Rome) are usually on dreams). And if HRE is dead and not Germany why hasn’t he tried to visit Italy? technically if he is dead he could be able to do it.

So
much to break down, so I’ll try to be concise. (I can’t remember which post I already
wrote all this in).

Rome
visits the Italy brothers in their dreams, but Germany is the exception. That visit
takes place when the latter is awake.

Source: Hetarchive, Grandpa Rome’s Visit Home.

As
for the supernatural thing: I think that’s a purposeful complexity of Germany’s
character.

There’s
the irony of a supernatural “strange being” strongly believing in empiricism and
scientific fact. While Germany is quick to discount ghosts, the fact that he
sees them is important.

Source: Hetascanlations, World Stars Chapter 1 + Hetarchive, Comic Diary 8.

Nations
don’t see ghosts unless they believe in them as a result of their people
holding these same beliefs. We’ve seen this with Japan, who lost his ability to
see youkai and other supernatural beings during the Meiji era. Longer post here
[x].

In
other words, if Germany sees them, the logic in the manga follows that he must believe
in them, regardless of how much he verbally discredits it.

For example: Even though he waves
off Quintillus—a Roman emperor—as a boy and not who he openly claims to be,
Germany refers to Quintillus as Roman afterwards. It doesn’t seem to be put sarcastically either.

If anything, on top of
revealing that Germany may have actually recognized Quintillus as a spirit,
this also ties in with the fact that Germany’s interest in Roman history is
putting him along a trajectory of recovering his roots; that is, if he is Holy
Rome.

Source: Hetascanlations, World Stars Chapter 41.

Since
we know that nations who have passed on live in heaven, Holy Rome not visiting
Italy supports the idea that he never died and had instead lived on to adopt
the title of Germany, albeit possessing no memory of his past life.

Chapter 1
of World Stars states that during title changes, it’s possible for the personification
to adopt a new personality. Since personality is heavily influenced by memory,
it could just be that the personality change is Germany losing his past
memories.

Holy Rome Talk

First, I just want to thank you both for participating. I really
appreciate it 😀

My theory accounts
for this:

1)
The nations are
cultural personifications

Usually, when the culture or the country’s personality dies/ disappears, the country would gradually disappear or entrust him/ herself to the country that takes over him/ her.

There are also cases that him/her is not a country but continues to live leisurely as a representative of a region.

Source: Hetarchive, It’s a Treasure Box of
Countries.

The nations are cultural personifications. They
exist when people unite under a common cultural identity. As such, this may
account for the reasons why there are separate personifications for Ancient Egypt
and Greece and Ancient Greece and Greece etc. However, I do agree that the
rules of this are arbitrary and inconsistent if you look at nations like China
and Japan, who don’t have ancient counterparts. Which brings me to my next
point:

2)
The nations are
described as “strange beings.”

image
image

Because of this, not everything that happens can be explained with an ascribed logic. It’s canon for nations to arbitrarily last
for as short as a few days to 1000s of years. Nations can also keep living and
change their titles over time. For example: Hungary was originally born as an equestrian
tribe and Prussia was originally born as a catholic order.

Therefore, it’s not an easy fix because no rules
were broken.

Source: Hetascanlations, World Stars
Chapter 1 + Hetarchive, Notes & Etc + Volume 2 Character profiles.

On the other hand, given that World Stars is
recent, the “easy fix” argument can still be countered. Himaruya’s been hinting
of the Holy Rome = Germany connection since the first original web chapters
(2006).

See: Hetare 4, Pact of Steel + Hetare 5, Lietuvis.

image

My theory also
accounts for this:

1)      France never killed
Holy Rome in the deleted strip.

He only notified Italy that Holy Rome had died.

image

Source: Hetarchive, Holy
Rome is no more

2)      Cultural personifications
x 2

I’m going to sum up my main points, as I’ve already
written and explained this in greater detail:

  • Basically, because the nations are cultural personifications, the switch
from Germany to Holy Rome didn’t consist of a significant change in culture.
They both represented the German people. Germany represented the consolidated nation
of the previous sovereign states that Holy Rome represented.
  • Holy Rome didn’t die right away after his dissolution–this ties in
with the fact that as long as the culture exists, the personification won’t die
    right away.
image

Source: Hetarchive, It’s
a treasure box of countries + Hetascanlations, World Stars Chapter 187.

  • Holy Rome became sick because of fragmentation
and disunity but nonetheless existed because of the culture. This is consistent
with the rule where nations get sick if their economy or political situation
    isn’t stable

Source: Hetarchive, In
just two minutes you can grasp the exterior of the European Economy.

image
image
  • This then escalated to him being on his deathbed after dissolution. On
top of the culture still existing, it’s still possible for personifications not
to die even after their culture/ personality (essence) disappears

Source: Hetarchive, It’s a Treasure Box of Countries.

  • The switch from Germany to Holy Rome is consistent with the rule of
personifications being able to change titles.

I got a challenge for you, inspired by the buzzfeed challenge. Don’t worry, it’s not another one of those. How about a good argument against the HRE is Germany theory? (Sorry if this sounds rude btw)

It doesn’t sound rude!

New Challenge:

Okay,
so here’s the thing. As someone who has read the manga countless times and has picked
up on all the hints, foreshadowing, parallels, and conjoining logics, I don’t and
presently cannot see that as a possibility. I haven’t seen anyone use good
concrete evidence to prove against the theory. And then there’s those who don’t
believe the theory just because everyone else believes it…

So,
tell you what: you guys put forward your evidence as to why you don’t think
Germany is Holy Rome and I’ll see if I can counter it. This way, it tests the
strength of my theory. This post here outlines a lot of my main counters to the
most common arguments, so please read it over first [x].

Also
note that you have to back up your points with evidence from the manga. It can’t
just be based on what you ‘think.’ What you think has to be supported with
proof and examples. Show me how you
reached your conclusions ^^

Please submit it in ask form!

Note: This post
makes the assumption that Germany is Holy Rome. It hasn’t been
confirmed in canon so don’t take it as such. For more posts and evidence on
this subject, go here [x] [x] [x] [x] [x].

Aside from the overwhelming evidence that draws parallels
between Holy Rome and Germany (e.g., foreshadowing, mimicked dialogue, and similar
traits, behaviours, and tastes), there are also several instances in the series
that deliberately include Holy Rome and Germany in the same strip, utilizing
contexts that bridge a significant connection between the two.

There’s no explanation
I
can think of that would account for why they would both be included in
these strips if not for the purpose to stress that there’s a link between them
that we have yet to learn. These don’t appear to be coincidental; there’s a
striking sense of intentionality and purpose that shouldn’t be overlooked or
waved off.

Comic Diary 7—

A series of fragmented scenes that, on a surface level appear to make no sense, but… [x].

Kid versions of
Chibitalia and Holy Rome “press for acknowledgment
.” I’ve theorized before
that this symbolizes how both Italy and Germany have repressed memories from
their childhood.

image

The strip then continues with some panels covering Austria’s
annexation during WW2.

Reference to the
German Confederation
. There’s a notable fixation around the vague process
of Germany’s birth. We also know that the whole idea of Germany asking about his
past is vague or misleading, as Prussia isn’t the most reliable storyteller.

image

Private Concert—

The Flute. Prussia
plays the flute for Germany. He has a flashback of how sick Holy Rome became
after his dissolution [x]

image

Notice how Prussia repeats the exact same line as Holy Rome.
Unconsciously, perhaps, but it still doesn’t negate the fact that there’s a
connection and obvious repetition here. Again, I don’t think Himaruya did this for no reason.

image
image

Volume 4, Cat Festival

Continuity. Chibitalia, Hungary, and Holy Rome wear cat ears
to participate in Belgium’s cat festival.

image

Cut to Austria wearing cat ears and pressuring Germany to do
so too.

Edited photo: Adult Italy and Germany (Left) and Chibitalia and Holy Rome (Right). From the same strip.

Pescatore means fisherman so I wonder what Hima wanted to say. Pesca (peach)? Pesce (fish)? Was the translation wrong? (I know you didn’t translate it) Anyway, even if the images you put weren’t part part of the song originally they seem spot on! And also make the post more visually appealing (this goes for the other songs you posted as well)

Pescatore is a pasta
with seafood ingredients.

Thank you so much! I just
can’t help but notice how some songs are cut-and- paste from material in the manga (obviously—they’re character songs). The references are either super obscure or obvious. While “Let’s Look Behind
the Rainbow” is supposed to be generic in that the listener is experiencing the
song as a tourist, I found that there were a lot of parallels to early
chapters of World Stars, where Italy acts as Germany’s tour guide [x] [x] [x].

There may be a double
meaning to the song too…

The sea has been used as
a metaphor for time before [x].

image

I interpreted the lyrics of the listener
losing something in the sea [of time] as a reference to the unconfirmed
assumption that Germany lost his early childhood memories as Holy Rome.

image
image

Note:
Unlike other posts in the song-talia series, the follow panels used are for fun. The song is originally intended for non-specificity, but there are similar elements in the manga that I’ll be drawing from. I also makes links that
haven’t been confirmed in canon. Lyrics taken from [x].

Ciao! Ciao! Ciao! Ciao☆

Hey~ I know a special place, Come with me, and let’s see it together
Hey~ But before that, we’ll make ourselves
some cappuccino so we can have a good time!

Look over here a little bit more (my heart is
beating from your embarrassed look)

image

Let’s do this forever (I wonder if the sky will
clear up soon)

image

Let’s
look behind the rainbow! Your smile brings miracles
And drives away the clouds and the wind

image
image

Bathing in the sunlight of the cloudless sky
we break into a run on the white sandy beach
Let’s find that shining moment together, the two
of us

image

Hey~ Let’s go have some magnificent pescatore and gelato!
That’s right! Lasagna is really
good too! And so is ravioli! We’ll have the most wonderful time, as
long as we’re together

image

Come over
here a little closer (you look beautiful with that bashful smile too)

It’s a secret between us two (Hey, I want to know
more)

image

A mirage on the horizon, where the sea is dyed in summer colors
Our hearts and bodies burst with emotions

While basking in the breeze of summer, we bathe
in the white gushing waves

Let’s find that shining moment together, the two
of us

image

“Eh? You dropped something important into
the sea?”
“We have to find it!”
“Ah… if I recover it, would you cook some
pasta for me?”

image

(Aah~ I wonder if I can find it? I hope I can
find it. I should look everywhere…

Aah~ I’ve found it! The thing important to you!
I’m holding it in my hands now…)

I clutch onto a piece of your smile, I’ll be
able to return it to your hands
Then even your tears would be blown away

image

Let’s look behind the rainbow! Let’s go see it
together, holding hands!
The two of us, to a brand new world

What lies on the other side of the rainbow? A
gateway to a dream that no one has seen

image

Even the sea and the sky all shine brightly
But above all, the most important thing is right
in front of us now
Everything I do with you, is a sparkling
treasure.

Ciao!
