Thank you! đ (what would they have been called before lol?)

Youâre very welcome. They should be the ones shook for blindly making unsubstantiated assumptions. Hetalia has been rightly judged for its early years;Â nonetheless, the series has always worked to subvert racist narratives.Â

A number of reasons.
One, people are still reading them, and I donât have the heart
to rip away the content.
Two, painful as it may be in hindsight, they chart my
progress as a writer. Â
Three, it charts the progress of my character. Looking back
at some of the authorâs notes, I can tell that I was coming from a really angry
and anxious place. Iâve mellowed out considerably in the last few years.
Four, it holds me accountable. Some of the jokes or characterizations
I made could have been handled with more sensitivity.
As mentioned before, a lot of my characterization posts
include mistakes that I made. Iâm not coming from a âholier-than-thouâ
perspective.
Itâs more like âhey,
from one past (??) dumbass to
another, donât do this.â

Millennials, stand aside. Weâve been wanting to die for centuries. Unfortunately, weâre totally immortal.
âI remember death so much it feels more like a memory.â Â LITERALLY!!!!

Workâs giving youâre a migraine? Try being shot in the head a few times.

Forget no-strings attached. No-strings is our way of life.
Not aging makes us virtually undateable to the majority of the population. Nothing says major turn-off like being perpetually baby-facedâŠhang in there, Latvia!

Thanks to our bosses, we have an inhumane amount of paperwork to do every day.

Still waiting for France to unionize us and pull off a strike. Any century nowâŠ

Unlike humans, breakups can mean a number of things to us.
Whatâs more AWKWARD than having your ex-colonial overlord as your colleague?Â

Did I mention how much it sucks be us?!

Me: Yay! The weekend! Time to relax.Â
Life: :)))))

Rumour: He has an
official character design.
Reality: He doesnât
have an official character design, albeit making a canon appearance.
Scotland appears off-screen in âThe Battle for America.â
Source: Hetarchive, The Battle for America.

Something often confused among fans is that these unspecified
character designs are Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland when no such
confirmation was given. These sketches remain as undesigned characters and are not the three brothers.
Source: Hetarchive (Bamboo Thicket, eng trans., Sept 28th, 2014).Â

However, the top one matches a previous sketch of Himaruyaâs,
where he gave a rough drawing of what he believed Scotland would look like. Thus,
itâs presumed that this may be Scotland and the other two UK
siblings. But, unless confirmed, they remain as unidentified nations.
Source: Hetarchive (Bamboo Thicket, Feb 9th, 2011).Â

Himaruya has gone on the record to say that the UK brothers will
appear in World Stars, as he did with Czechia and Slovakia who have already
made their formal appearances. Although, his initial intention was to draw the brothers first.

As touched on before, there is what seems to be a female
African nation in volume six that visits Seychelles. Others have concluded that
this nation is Madagascar. This is because of a scene where Seychelles refers
to Madagascar in the third person and that it is a common âspeech quirkâ to
refer to someone like this in Japanese. While this may be the case, and as
Hetarchive has also held, unless confirmed, theyâre not a nation let alone
Madagascar.

A second, lesser-known instance of an unidentified African
nation is the pirate personification that Iceland has an interaction with.
Since itâs possible
for nations to evolve into new titlesâex: Hungary originally personified a
nomadic equestrian tribe and Liechtenstein, Austrian noblesâit would be
interesting to see if Himaruya ever decides to do something with this. For
example, the pirate personification could have survived past their old title
and evolved into a modern country. (note: I use nation loosely to encompass all
personfications, whereas âcountryâ is a nation that is politically recognized).

Lastly, there is also this sketch of what people have
presumed to be an unidentified African nation given that in the sketch they
appear with a meerkat.

Theyâre not biologically related.
England is said to be the son of four siblings, which
includes Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
â
Yes. Though England is the United Kingdom, when he comes back home, he becomes the fourth son of four siblings. His older brothers, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, are three people.âÂ

Sure thing! Iâve wanted to discuss potential/ mystery characters
for a while now.
And yes. That wiki page is very confusing because at times
itâs right âOfficial identities have not been revealedâ and other times, itâs
wrong âThis is Scotland, this is Wales etc.â Those pages arenât reliable since
anyone can edit them.
Post coming up tonight!

Note: This post
can be taken as both a friendship and shipping post, so Iâll tag it
accordingly. I say shipping in the sense that this material would be useful tools
to incorporate into characterizations should anyone wish to write this pairing
more in tandem to canon.
A trend Iâve noticed in the fandom is that many people are
quick to dismiss the possibility of Japan and England sharing a good
relationship. I suspect that the animeâs portrayal of them in WW2 has a lot to
do with this conception. That said, what I seek to prove is that their
relationshipâmore specifically friendship because thatâs what it isâextends before WW2. The two are and were actually very close allies.
That said, Iâve organized their relationship into three main
themes. All themes are linked to one another and contain substantive parallels
between their characters.
Both England and Japan experienced the pain of losing a
brother figure. Japan lost China, who raised him, and England lost America, who
he raised. While Japanâs historical isolation extends into the time where he
and China were still personally involved with each other, there is nonetheless the
unique parallel that both countries have experienced personal isolation.
Ex: China
developed a grudge after Japan betrayed him in WW2. Please note that the grudge
has since eroded away in the present.
Source: Hetarchive, The Story About the Early Days of China and Japan.

England and America both experienced a substantial loss and
tear in their personal relationship following the Revolution. This has also
since been rectified in the present.
Ex: America drank coffee in spite of his grudge over the
Revolution.
Source: Hetarchive, Lithuaniaâs Out-sourcing Series pt. 1

Ex: England dreams about raising America, an echo of his
latent and longing desire to live in the past again.
Source: Volume 3, England Dreaming of Long Days Passed.

Of course, the two didnât just experience personal
isolation. Theyâre both known for their political isolation.
Ex: England,
being geographically isolated from continental Europe, became ostracized from other European nations.
Source: Volume 3, England Dreaming of Long Days Passed.

Ex: Japan grew
accustomed to telepathically communicating with other beings. In fact, he grew
so accustomed to it that when he first met Italy, he wasnât in the habit of
speaking verbally [x].Â
Obviously, this isnât overlooking the Westernization he
experienced during and after the Meiji era. The point is that his previous
isolation impacted his communication patterns.

Ex: In fact,
several strips in the series depicts Japan being overwhelmed upon opening his
country.
Source: Volume 4, Netherlands and Isolationist Japan.Â

The neat tie between the two characters is that Himaruya
dedicates an entire strip to the two of them forming the Anglo-Japanese
alliance. The title of said strip is pretty self-evident as to how their
isolation impacted them:
âThe Anglo-Japanese Alliance Between Two Lonely People.â

Lastly, there is also this comic gag that depicts their neko
versions overcoming their isolation by sharing a kitty box [x].Â

A last theme coursing through their relationship is the open
dialogue between their cultures. In other words, the two have a history of
sharing their cultures.
Ex: England enlists Japanâs help in teaching him how to make
better industrial design [x].

Ex: Japan adds his own spin to a traditional Christmas card and
England reciprocates the favour [x].Â

Ex: England hosts Japan at his café and aims to give the
latter an authentic English experience of the space [x].Â

Overall, England and Japan share a very gentle and generous
relationship, overlooked as it may be in light of other relationships that tend
to be underscored in fanon.
