Omg Ella you’re so lucky for needing such a little amount of sleep… Not many people could go on for more than a week on 3-5 hours of sleep, they would physically collapse. Even if you feel exhausted (so you would actually need a bit more than 3-5 hours) if you can manage it for the entire school year it still means that you need fewer hours of sleep than a normal person. I’m so envious of you, that’s like having 2 more hours every day to accomplish stuff, I would kill for that…

It’s not as cracked out as it seems to be. Plenty students that I know, especially in the health sciences and maths, get around 3-4 hours of sleep when they’re in Uni.

Not sleeping comes at a costly price. I constantly get headaches and sometimes have trouble concentrating.. Working out daily helps, but it also makes me more tired several hours later. Point is, it could go either way. If I’m tired, staying up longer has no effect on how productive I am, since completing tasks take longer. My advice to you would to focus on completing as much as you can without sacrificing quality.

I think it’s my determination and sheer stubbornness that keeps me going, otherwise this school-hobby balance would be completely unsustainable. I could can home completely exhausted, but as soon as I open this blog, it feels as if I’m wide awake. Weird, huh?

…Oh that’s complicated.

When I first started out, it was only fanfiction. My CGPA in my first year of Uni was a 9.2. Only writing fanfiction in my second year, my CGPA rose significantly to a 9.6 (I had a 9.8 GPA total in my second year). In that case, writing constantly did, in fact, raise my grades. My vocabulary, critical thinking skills, and ability to articulate my thoughts better was definitely a result of getting solid writing practice on the side.

On the other hand, in my third year (April 2018), my GPA dropped to a 9.4. I attribute that to the daily content grinder that I put myself in with this blog. Fanfiction was something I only did on the weekend, but this blog is something I work on every day for up to 3-5 hours. Balancing fanfiction, the blog, school, and work became a lot for me to handle.

My advice would be to find a better balance. I had a habit of putting this hobby first because I desperately wanted to improve my writing as fast as possible—this meant writing something every day. Writing as a hobby does improve your grades, but it won’t if you sacrifice time you should be devoting to your studies. I hope this helps!

Yes, I’m going into my last year in September! I’m exploring many options now. If my student placement works out well, hopefully I can secure a paid contract position that will eventually lead to a full-time position as a research analyst. That would be ideal.

I’ve also considered applying for a masters or entering teacher’s college.

In a dream world, I become a professional author somewhere down the line.

I’ve been good this summer, averaging on 6-8 hours. Then again, I’m part-time and am only taking two courses as opposed to five.

When I’m full-time, that figure usually falls to 3-5 hours of sleep. Readings and assignments always get done in the morning, when I’m most awake. Posts are written in between classes. In the evening, I work-out, compose the posts, post them, and then do more readings. Sleep and repeat. It’s exhausting, but as long as you have an end goal in mind, it’s worth it.

Best of luck with your blog and college!

I’m rewatching Bleach for the fourth time LOL.

Omg Ella you can’t leave us hanging like that! What’s the ‘real tea’?? (also, are you still in contact with that person? because that’s was quite weird, I have to admit, but it sounds more like a person who’s trying to be genuinely nice but is a bit awkward)

The real tea I’m
considering making into a small storytime video xD (I won’t use
real names, obviously, but yikes some people in this fandom…).

No, our conversations
didn’t last very long, but they were very pleasant and sweet. You’re right on
the nail with that 🙂

weirdest interaction in the fandom you’ve had? Worst interaction in the fandom you’ve had?

I’ll just do the weirdest interaction I’ve had. I’ll save the real tea for another time…

Basically, this person messaged me and was like:

Person: Yeah, I read two of your 100k fanfictions and didn’t like them at all which made me not like you but I’m messaging you now to apologize for me not liking you. Can we become friends?”

Me: *Has no idea how to react*

Me: SURE! ThAT’s OkAY! If I read my old stories, I wouldn’t like me too!”

Could mun Ella describe her appearance/ fashion?

Baggy, ripped jeans; nylons with jean shorts; turtle necks; baggy,
warm sweaters; combat boots; sneakers; unnecessarily long hair; eyebrows permanently furrowed from reading all the time; extremely pale-skinned [for a tan person, I don’t leave my house often]; lanky; uneven and catastrophic finger nails from cleaning; bruises on hips and
shins from bumping into things/ my blind dog obliviously smacking into me in greeting; and snacks always on hand.

Some opinion-related asks that I’ve neglected…

I would give it a solid
eight out of ten. Its strengths are the descriptive language and imagery that
the author invokes. I can still vividly imagine the trading posts and the smog/
discolouration of the polluted air.

The weakness for me was the dialogue, save for some very memorable scenes at
the end. I feel like they focused too much on the description that the dialogue
fell flat; overall, it wasn’t very engaging for me. I’m very much a dialogue
person over that of description, so this could just be my personal bias.

The manga OBVIOUSLY xD.

I’ve always liked to
think of the anime as the Wikipedia equivalent of the manga. So many
misconceptions, 2D portrayals, and people confusing the dub as canon…

Thank you!

Hands down, Hetaoni is
my favourite fanmade creation in this fandom. I’ve watched several play
throughs on Youtube and absolutely loved it!

Although, I think it
scarred me a little. I still have nightmares where I’ve been blinded in the
mansion. I either bump into bookcases, step on the broken pieces of America’s
glasses, or grab at something slimey and muscular… it would seem that ThEre’s No EsCAping THe NiGhTmaRE.

Yikes. That would be a
strong no from me.

Animated shows and comics can get away with a lot more than content that uses real
actors.

It’s not too personal,
no worries. I’m from Ottawa.

If you really want to be
a stickler, the general rule is that 1) political, social, and economic
developments cause a nation to grow 2) if the first factor is satisfied, only then
is the average height of the population taken into consideration.

 Headcanon all ya want! I’m
not going to stop you 🙂

Biggest pet peeves as a content creator?

1) When other content creators
act as if there’s an invisible barrier between them and their followers,
especially in the comment section. It’s really not that hard to type in a
simple thank you to a kind comment/ reply to a message to say thank you.

Of course, it’s sometimes
impossible to check every comment
once time has passed, but I reply to those that I see. The comment section
should be a forum for engagement, not some classist-esque way for creators to
use their followers as a status shield and respective excuse to ignore them.

It’s something I’ve always
disapproved of and have unfortunately encountered in this fandom when I first
started out.

2) People not reading ask
guidelines before sending in an ask.

This isn’t really a pet peeve but it makes me feel bad
when I see this
: Please don’t
apologize if you send in an ask. You’re not bothering/ annoying me. Thank you
for your engagement 😀

<333 Thank you! It’s for a student placement! Boy, it’s been a hell of a long process to get through this security clearance. Hopefully there aren’t any more steps, although my coordinator said that finger prints and a polygraph test may be involved later on 😱
