Q & A

image

If anything, this could also indicate how removed England
was from the effect that his taxation had on his colonies. Great addition,
thank you for sharing! [x]

image
image

It seems like Canada is America’s adopted
introvert.

Yes and no. Early on, it
was more of a resentful push-and-tug relationship. Their relationship in the
present lines up more with what you’re saying!

Sorry, I have to make
this distinction because you still see people bitterly posting on trope
websites that the two remain primarily resentful of each other, which isn’t
true! [x].

image

Is North Italy really a virgin? If he’s not,
why does the fandom believe so? I mean I know he used the “I’m a
virgin” lie to get out being harmed, as for some reason they sympathize
for virgins, but the dude has a black book full of women he has dated, he still
dates and flirts with girls. Given how old he is, doesn’t it make more sense
for them to have lost it at some point in time? Maybe n teen years. Oh, that
time he ran home for sexual needs during war. So y proclaim it canon if 1 is
not sure

(Not sure why this
really matters lol but…)

It’s messy because you’re
leaping through several time periods here. They don’t occur simultaneously.

WW1–He plays the
sympathy card and states that he’s a virgin to prevent Germany from shooting
him. This also could have just been a spur of the moment thing he said to avoid being harmed.

image

We also know from this
character chart that Italy officially becomes an adult in the 20th
century [x].

image

The third comic you
referenced is from Comic Diary 2. It
takes place in WW2. Italy cites that fight or flight instincts in war create an
urge in men to reproduce, hence the greater occurrence of sexual intercourse
between men since no women are available. As you mentioned, he leaves to
presumably have sex [x].

image

The second strip you
mentioned is from volume 2 and seems to take place in WW2. It doesn’t actually confirm whether he’s had sexual
intercourse with these women but rather that he’s met them over the years from
his time spent in war (i.e., “battles). He could have, but it’s not made explicit.

image

Presently, there’s a
strip where Italy uses a sexual innuendo in front of an attractive girl at an
anime convention [x].

image

Overall, my guess is
that he probably was a virgin during WW1 having just become an adult but lost
it sometime during or before WW2.

Why does no nation (other than his family) look
behind Russia’s cruelty and see he’s very lonely? (While Russia has done very
questionable things in the past…)

It’s easy to say that from an outsider’s perspective. Even
though Russia wasn’t psychologically aware of the depth and extent of his
cruelty, he was still an abuser. Loneliness isn’t exactly going to make those
whom he tortured instantly want to be friends with him. They’re big enough to
empathize and feel some compassion from him, but none of that will negate the
terrible experiences they endured in his household. I don’t blame them [x].

image

It’ll take a long time to heal (as we saw with China and
Japan), but I do believe it’s possible that their relationship will
improve in the future.

I’m too disturbed by the fact that Germany
can’t drink beer legally because he’s underage. he’s 20. he became an adult a
few years ago. he literally killed a man in his sleep, but he can’t drink beer
yet / he’s just too mature for his age??? he’s still a bby boy???? he can still
grow a little at this age??? he’s so young???

He’s 20 physiologically but not chronologically and became
an adult decades ago. Drinking ages also vary from country to country.

I know there are a few occasions where nations
physiologically young are barred from drinking (Deleted strip:

America’s Brewster F2A Buffalo), but for
the most part, it doesn’t seem to matter [x].

image

If a nation ages, it’s usually a mesh between their
chronological age, and political, social, and economic developments.

Q & A

I think I read somewhere that Belarus can see
ghosts? Do you know if this is true.

I don’t have a direct English translation to link you to, but it is
revealed that she can see ghosts in “Desktop Buddies” [x].

image

This is
the anon from earlier asking about your askbox status. I’ll send the ask now
then. So I was wondering if the canon human names that Himaruya’s picked out
for the countries have any historic relation, significance, or connotation to
be kept in mind? I believe that Hima in the past has explained some of his
reasoning to an extent, but a lot of it I think he’s left up for debate so I
was wondering if you could provide a list of plausible reasoning for their
canon names. Thanks!

The human names were deleted, so some people don’t take them as canon. Many speculate that this was because the names and surnames were not well-researched on Himaruya’s part (which is true).

Hetarchive has an entire page dedicated to extracting the possible historical references and/or significance from each of the names [x].

Although the nyos were later given names, they’re not official or canon. Himaruya stated that fans could name them however they please [x].

I love your post on
micronations and states. I’m hoping hima will put Mexico and Texas in there. I
know mexico was mentioned once. I just am hoping Texas will be
official-official since Texas used to be a country and hima saying nations
continue living if the become territory’s.

Thank you!

The strip where Mexico was mentioned is from Comic Diary 2. America speaks of the Alamo grudge [x].

image

As for statetalia? While state personifications exist for other nations, they don’t [officially] for America.

On the other hand, Himaruya does create a dialogue and panel in which the American states hypothetically existed [x].

I think I saw somewhere that Prussia asked
Italy on a date once- is that true?

Yup! It’s from Prussia’s Drama CD, titled “The CD of the Awesome Me,” [x].

Hi Ella! Can nations teleport? (France
disappeared after talking to Joan so I was wondering) Or maybe he just ran away…

Hello! They can transport; however, distance and the ability to travel on foot conventionally seems to be a major factor (e.g., Finland can’t transport to Seychelles and vice-versa during the 2010 Christmas Event).

*After talking to Lisa, Jeanne’s presumable reincarnate*

It’s not confirmed, but that could be the reason why France disappeared so quickly. Either that, or he was just being dramatic for flare.

image
image

Do you know some moments that Italy may looks naive, but he knows more
then he looks?

Italy’s not canonically naïve.
Yes, I’m aware that the comic gag is that he’s a “Hetare” but even in the
original webcomic, he’s not clueless at all. In fact, he constantly worries
about how he’s perceived by his allies in terms of his worth and ability to
contribute to the alliance [x].

Overall, he’s incredibly
intelligent and perceptive. He puts on a front of cheerfulness but is keenly
aware of what’s going on around him. Most of the time he brushes it off and
chooses not to focus on it.

You see this more when he refers to corruption in his nation’s
politics [x].

image
image

MORE WHOLESOME AMERICA PLEASE

Your wish is my command [x].

image

Why are Austria and Switzerland suddenly so
distant from each other? Okay their relationship was cut because of their boss,
but after that, why are they like cold towards each other like ex lovers or
something?

As far as I’m concerned, it’s
literally just that reason. There isn’t much of a romantic overtone (they were kids). It was more like a very tight partnership or camaraderie. I say this because Switzerland has flashbacks of the times he spent with Austria when he experiences similar moments of fondness with Lichtenstein.

He’s still bitter over the loss, having been discarded and mistreated by someone he trusted. Please remember that nations follow their bosses orders, so it’s not like Austria had any malicious intent [x].

Okay, just a quick question. Do you remember
that strip where Romano wanted his room of hopes and dreams cleaned? There was
a roman emperor looking statue on the front. Maybe he wanted to rule the empire
once? I’m feeling curious y’know.

That’s an interesting thought. My personal take on it is that it represents Romano’s failed hopes to live up to his grandfather’s legacy and inheritance [x].

image

You see this complex with him when he’s younger too [x].

image

Veneziano isn’t exclusive to failing up to this legacy either. Germany actually overestimates him when they first encounter each other in WW1 (Volume 1, Prologue).

image

Which character do you think is least accurate
to the country they are based upon?

Poland 100%

Q & A

Do You think that it’s okay to think in China,
India and Turkey as Ancients Nations. I don’t know if to be an Ancient, the
nation has to be old and had passed a long time ago.

There’s no explicit rule on what makes an ancient an ancient. I use a
rule of thumb and go by chronological age.

Yes, to China given that he’s lived for 4000+
years (e.g., he’s alive the same time as Rome) [x].

image
image

India, we don’t know enough information about
to pinpoint if he’s a more recent personification/ if he has an ancient
counterpart.

Yes, to Turkey too. In one of the drama CDs, it’s
revealed that he was the one who killed the Byzantine Empire (previously Ancient
Greece) [x].

Why does Turkey wear a mask?

No real reason is given. The
closest we’ve come to an answer only leaves us with more ambiguity… (Source:
Christmas 2007 event).

image
image
image

On the other hand,
Himaruya does play with the idea of the mask. He’s created posts, where if you
click on Turkey’s image, a new image of him without a mask will appear [x].

image

What do you think of Germanys character song Steady Rhythmus?
A lot of people seem to be confused because it’s rock/“metal”. Idk
why tho, considering that a shitload of Germans (including me) love those genres.
I mean, we have rock/metal bands and festivals everywhere :/

Not a fan of it, but I do get why it’s of that genre. I
actually kind of like Prussia’s “My song that is written for me, by me”, save
for some parts lmao. The instrumentals are good.

Would Prussia still be considered a nation, or is he now
human? If we’re ignoring the East Germany theory, that is.

The simple answer is that he seems to be somewhere in
between. He takes longer to heal, yet Gilbird is still around him. Since
the personifications’ immortality rubs off on their pet, Prussia may have still
retained some of his immortality, although it could be waning. Hypothetically,
if Prussia was human, being constantly around Germany—whom he lives with—would drive him mad [x].

The main reasons I say this are:

1)    He’s once referred to as being “in a pitiful state of an
enclave” [x].

2)    When asked if Prussia would eventually fade away, Hima states
this: [x].

image
image

Do you think that Italy is underestimated by others nations,
sometimes?

Yes and no.

Germany often underestimates him, being biased from what he
witnessed of Italy during the World Wars.

 Ex: Germany’s reaction at
the Galata Bridge scene where Turkey recalls how strong young Italy used to be (Source: Volume 4).

image

There are also moments where nations recognize that it’s
better not to underestimate Italy (Source: Christmas 2011 Event).

image

Q & A

Do you think America trusts his own gov?
currently only 18% of the us trusts the gov and the rest doesn’t. I’m not really
sure if they’ve gone over that in hetalia, the only time I can actually think
of one time were america was unsure(??) of his gov, is that one ep where he
finds Tony but his boss or gov tells him that he can’t tell anybody and that it
didn’t happen. Maybe I haven’t found anything yet or I’m just looking too deep
but yeah I was kinda wondering that.

It’s not clear on
whether he trusts them or not, not that he really has a choice on obeying them anyway. Nations are
forced to comply with their bosses’ orders regardless of their own will/
opinion over the matter [x].

image

You’re talking about the
Roswell incident where he was deliberately lied to about the UFO by his boss
(the president) and was instead told that it was a weather balloon. (Source: Assault☆The neighbor’s Roswell Incident.)

image

Because
that’s one of the minimal scenes where we see him interacting with his boss
(another example would be in the “Black Ships have sailed” strip), there isn’t
enough information to form a solid conclusion on what you’re asking.

@amuamoami asked: Are
there any other african (black) characters in hetalia besides Seychelles? The
only issue i have with hetalia is that I dont see much color diversity.

There
is color diversity (e.g., Ecuador, the Asian nations, Spain, and Portugal— not to be confused with race, which doesn’t exist in Hetalia).

Cameroon is the only other official black character with a full
design [x].

image

There’s an unconfirmed female who may or may not be an African nation that visits Seychelles in Volume 6 (most people speculate that it’s Madagascar due
to the use of third person in one panel).

image

Lastly, there were some “chibi head”
illustrations that appeared in Gauken Hetalia [x].

I understand your sentiment. On the other
hand, Himaruya does have a habit of travelling to countries before he creates a
character for them. There’s also the whole matter of how messy and complicated
it would be to try to depict the subject of colonialism intersected with race.
It would be pretty unavoidable if he were to create these characters.

What are your personal opinions on Czechia and Slovakia?
They’re some of my favourite characters!

They’re hilarious
together! I love them! Taken out of context, this scene is even funnier for
some reason [x].

image

image

There isn’t much to base
my opinion on, unfortunately. There are very few interactions between them.

Ex: They have tea
together [x].

image

Ex: India comes to
England’s aid after the American Revolution and heals the latter [x].

image

Do you have any particular mischaracterizations of Hetalia
characters that you absolutely hate? This can also include falsely portrayed
relationships and such.

Hate is a strong word, but I definitely get irritated.

People’s inability to reconcile the idea that
deleted material is deleted material and that the shock “perverted” humour used
in the past by Himaruya, while incomprehensible, is no longer incorporated in
the series. France, in particular, would be a prime example of this.

Q & A

So now there are 4 italy brothers?

I suppose if you want to think of it that way. The German
States/ states are considered to be Germany’s brothers, so I don’t see why not [x]. Just know that this isn’t confirmed in canon.

Why there is a personification of Genoa if
Veneziano was the North of Italy since his childhood?

As mentioned in previous
posts, nationhood isn’t exclusive. It can extend to any organization of people,
formal or informal. Veneziano represented all of North Italy, whereas Genoa is
a more specific personification [x].

If it helps, think of it
this way. It’s no different than Holy Rome representing the collective of German
States despite them existing individually. Not to mention that these German
States evolved to become states (note the difference in capitalization).

Which characters do you think are the most developed?

America, England,
Germany, and Italy.

I see that all the cats in nekotalia have the nations as the
owners, but are They the cat versions of their respective nations or just an au
where the nations are cats?

They’re cat versions of
the respective nations. (Source: Volume 6).

Hi there! Love your blog, your theories and
such are very interesting:) You know how countries live by their bosses orders?
What do you think happens when they disobey their orders to stop a war from
breaking out? What are the consequences for them, as a personified country? I’m
very curious.

Thank you!
Unfortunately, I can’t answer that question considering that there are no
facts/ similar situations in the manga for me to base a response on. That’s
more along the lines of a headcanon ^^

Q & A

Q: Why are there so many cats? Like not just Nekotalia, but all
the random cats everywhere. Is there some deep meaning to them or does Hima
just really like cats?

A: He just really likes cats lol.

image
image

Q: Absolutely no idea if you touched on this
topic before. But do you have a theory on why there is an Ancient Greece and
Egypt and current Greece and Egypt. If it’s because of cultural difference,
shouldn’t other nations be in a similar situation? A example could be the
Nordics. I don’t know, I just thought it was curious. (By the way, huge fan!)

A: I haven’t, no worries! Anyways, it’s simpler
than you think. They perished because the culture and organization of people they represented was
taken over and replaced. In this case, they were conquered by Rome. Greece and
Egypt represent the inherited relics of their mothers’ cultures. It’s all in the name, really. ExAncient Greece represented Ancient Greek civilization.

As for the
Nordics, I can see where you’re coming from. However, so far, no Scandinavian
Ancient has been created. It would make perfect sense, though.

Q: For South Korea’s and Seychelles’ profiles
it mentions that korea likes studying abroad and Seychelles is a model student
. Does that mean some nations go to school or college ?

A: As stated in one of South Korea’s character
notes, it is possible for them to attend school on their own volition [x].

What people often confuse and take literally is
the World Academy. It’s an AU within canon. It’s not a legitimate school that
the nations attend.

Lastly, when nations are referred to as model/honour
students, it’s most often a figure of speech. For example, because Finland is
so successful in the EU, he’s referred to as an honour student [x].

In Seychelles’ case, she’s an honour student in
Africa in the sense that she’s economically successful in her tourism and
fishing industries. She’s better off in comparison to other African nations.

image

Q: You know how Norway and Iceland knew they were
brothers and could sense each other’s presence. And how Iceland could feel 🇸🇨(sorry I forgot how to spell her
name) relating to him. Can all countries do this? Can they also feel their
fates a-line with other countries who they end up in “marriages” with? Do you
know the answer or have hypothesis for this?

 A: *Seychelles.

image

There’s no canon evidence about the marriage part,
but…

Nations can sense each other and distinguish
themselves from humans.

Ex: Colonizing nations knew that America was one of
them [x].

image

Ex: When he’s born, Iceland instinctively knows that
he’s not human [x].

image
image

Q: Where can I find a list of the human names?

A: I try to be patient with this question, I
really do, but google is your friend!

All you
have to do is search up a Hetalia country and a Hetarchive Wiki page pops up in the first
few results. The mods at Hetarchive have put a lot of time and effort to make a ton of information about the characters accessible. Don’t let their years
of hard work be in vain.

That said, the original post including the
nations’ human names was taken down from Kitayume, so some people don’t take
them as canon.

To make things easier, there’s this page here
with character profiles should you want to look up their human names
[x].

Q & A

Q: i read on one of the hetawikis that italys curl was added as a last
minute thing to make him cuter, but himaruya said that now the curl is
“important.” any thoughts?

A: There’s one character note that states that the curl represents “the
sexual something of the Italians” [x].

Q: Your post on how fascism isn’t promoted in the manga was
extremely helpful, so thank you. Just wondering. Is there any strips that
depict how the people react to the war?

A: Disclaimer: This is
coming from someone who’s half Jewish. I shouldn’t have to say this, but
knowing the internet…

All that’s shown is how hopeful the people are [x].
You have to situate the context and realize that the German people had just
come out of a massive economic recession. The war promised them a solution. (Unfortunately, this solution and the many years leading up to it involved scapegoating, unjust persecution, assaults, and discrimination).

image

Point is, Hetalia never promoted Fascism. As
discussed in this post [x], all it does it situate the reason why the Germans
went to war – namely because of how stringent the compensation mandated by the
Treaty of Versailles was. It doesn’t tackle anything past that. Given the young targeted demographic, the atrocities committed during WW2 aren’t covered or touched on.

Again, there’s a difference between situating a
historical context vs promoting a horrible political ideology.

image

A: Thank you!  I’m by no means a gun expert, but in one
of the first original web comics, he does appear to be holding a sniper rifle [x].

image

There’s also the famous Finnish sniper Simo Häyhä “White Death” from WW2 that might have made such a headcanon
to be taken as fact. Other than that, you’re right. I don’t recall any of his
character notes mentioning this ability. Most of them can be found here [x]

Q: What’s your favorite time Germany
wasn’t being “strict follow the rules never smiles” in the manga. ( I just saw
a picture of Germany putting on a puppet show for America and Russia and he
said “don’t nuke it out, hug it out” and I was like man I need more of this
side of Germany).

A: Chapter 20 of World Stars! Italy asks Germany
to help him clean Romano’s messy room. Germany seems looser here and even
returns some of Romano’s snark, although still being up to the challenge [x].

image
image

Q: Can Norway and England see General Winter?

A: It seems to be Northern countries who experience winter that have interactions with
General Winter.

image

What I’ve always found to be insane is that not
only is Finland immune to the cold, but he’s friends with General Winter [x].

image

Q & A

Q: Is there any other information that talks about the nations
as being super humans?

A:

Summary: I asserted that a nation’s super strength is a play on the
fact that they’ve obtained the status of being an economic and political
superpower. As such, if the nation loses superpower status, they therefore also
lose the additional strength they gained.

Back to the question: Yes! One of Poland’s character profiles talks about how he
used to be a super nation before losing this status [x]

image

Was a super nation that controlled Middle and Eastern Europe with his partner Lithuania during the Middle Ages. Due to the decadence and corruption of the royalty, he lost his status as a super nation and was often split apart (partitioned), and yet keeps reviving himself as though he were a phoenix.”

Q: Yesss fall of the Berlin Wall strip please @hima. How do you
think it would go with your historical and hetalia knowledge? Do you believe
Prussia was kept away from Germany and it would be them reuniting?

A: Based on what we’ve seen in the manga, I don’t think they’d be
kept apart. Instead, I believe that they’d get brief catch-ups here and there
before they actually united and moved into the same house again. It’s not really so much like how it played out historically, where families where kept apart for decades.

The reason I say this is because when a nation is
ruled over/ conquered/ becomes a subordinate to another nation, the ruling
nation takes over their political affairs and attends world meetings for them.
The subordinate nation can still attend these meetings, but only as servants.
They don’t get to speak on their own behalf.

Ex: We’ve seen the Baltic States act as
servants when Russia forms an alliance with Germany during WW2 [x]. They still attend the meeting.

image

Ex: Prussia is shown on multiple occasions to be working among other Soviet States and is also noted to have worked unprofitable jobs for Russia
post WW2 [x[x].

image

Ex: When the two brothers do unite, Germany is
evidently disturbed by how shabby Prussia’s appearance is [x]. Some time had likely passed since they had last seen each other here.

image
image

It’s not that they wouldn’t see each other at
all, just likely not often.

Q: Can we appreciate how Hungary’s annoyed/scary face is the
same as Germany’s? I always saw them as a kind of mother son figures, distant
ones but still mother son.

A: I can see it, but Hungary’s angry face more closely resembles
England’s. It’s the demon eyes!

image
image

You’re not wrong on that last part. Hungary’s
described as a big sister-figure.

“Opposite of her appearance, she is a gallant girl who used to be a nomad. She’s a lovely older sister-type whom you can rely on if you call for her.”

“In the old days, a real tomboy who chased horses on the plains! Today, a lovely big sister, however, get her angry and she’s awwwfully scary!”

[x]

She also appears to be close with Germany, as
she refers to him as “sweetie.”

image

Q: [On the topic of
how all APH characters are interesting and likable].

I agree! Every time I think I have a few top
favourites, I end up thinking of all the characters. For a fact, the Nordics
are my favourite (even though there are a few missing) because I live in that
area, and can connect more with them. Plus there are the Soviet trio who are my
top, as well, cuz of my Slavic culture. Oh, but then there are the Romantics…
and it keeps going until I’ve listed everyone xD. I wish Hima made more for the
African and Islamic countries, my friends are from there.

A: I’m glad to see that others feel
this way 😀 From what I’ve understood, and while he does make historical
errors, Himaruya does a ton of reading, studying, and even traveling before he
depicts a country. For example, he gives several history book recommendations.
I think that has a large part to do with why some nations haven’t been created
yet.

Q: What is the historical reasoning for
Hungary’s characterization as gender confused when she was a kid? Did it
represent some aspect of her history or culture or was it just something hima
thought would give depth to her character?

A: Not 100% sure, but I’m leaning more towards
depth. Hima even acknowledges that female characters are rare in Hetalia [x],
although I’m not quite sure why that is. Part of it might have to do with the
fact that he’s admitted to having trouble drawing girls [x].

Q: just a by the by: the reason why china’s provinces have
their own personifications may stem from the fact that most provinces have
their own local dialect that’s unique to their place only, as well as very
distinctive local cultures (they all identify as Chinese, but also with their
own province). Someone from Beijing would be completely different from someone
who’s from Hunan who would be different from someone in Guangdong. It’s
different from the states in the US in that way.

A: Thanks for sharing this useful information!

Q & A

Q: Hey!! I dont know if you do asks like this, but
i was wondering on how you would characterize Canadian provinces and
territories? Seeing as youre Canadian and a professional regarding all things
hetalia, as well as a super good writer, i feel like youd be a really good
person to ask!! Thank you for reading this and im sorry for bothering you;;!!

A: You’re not bothering me, no worries, and thank you very much! I just feel a bit awkward when people ask me how exactly to characterize a character/ personification. I strongly believe in artistic interpretation and don’t want to limit anyone’s creativity. You do what you feel is right and exercise discretion like you would with any other fan creation. I don’t want to impinge on your muse.

Q: How strong is America?

A: Strong enough to lift a full-grown buffalo [x] and drag around a Rolls Royce [x].

image
image

Q: The “oni chan” thing is true! In Japan, it’s
common for children to call older kids (especially teens) by oni/ onee chan/san
out of respect and adoration. They don’t need to be siblings at all.

A: Say it louder for the people in the back.

Direct translations and different cultural connotations have caused so much unnecessary fighting in the fandom. What amazes me is that the explanation was explicitly given in a translator’s note too. [x]

Q: Why do people think Spain would cheat on his
S/O? That would be completely out of character for him. Oh, on the Germany
thing. Is it possible given the pre-existing political body, the already
existing economic and political situation, Germany past the “baby”
state and skipped to childhood? I know fans of the Germany= HRE theory may not
like it, but I don’t like my home being that child.

A: Man, I don’t know. I focus on canon material, not whatever we crazy fans come up with. It is completely out of character for him, though.

Ex: He had his heart broken by his separation from Austria and is still clearly affected by it during the War of Austrian Succession. When Italy chooses Austria over him, notice how he claims to be dumped again. [x]

image

Not to mention that Romano finds him weeping afterward.

image

As for Germany’s existing body, I’ve mentioned this in a post before. Basically, the nations are cultural personifications that include the political.

Even if they’re dissolved, the personification will still exist until the culture completely dies out [x]. This is likely why Holy Rome didn’t die right away after his dissolution, albeit being sick. The body of people he represented still lived on.

image

I’m personally of the belief that Holy Rome is Germany [x]. There’s a lot of evidence substantiating the fact that he’s indeed Holy Rome but is suffering from amnesia.

However, I totally understand where you’re coming from.

I think what’s important to differentiate here is that the Holy Rome you see in the older strips was just as exaggerated and crude as old characterizations of other countries like France and Austria were. If you look at chapter 187 of World Stars, the Holy Rome depicted there is much tamer.

Side note, I don’t see a point in people denying that Holy Rome is Germany without any grounds/ evidence to base this on.

The denial  for the sake of, well, denial, doesn’t do anything for me, I’d like evidence! My opinion isn’t set in stone either. I just haven’t seen someone put up a good case proving why Germany isn’t Holy Rome. Regardless, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, thank you for sharing yours.

Q: You mentioned North Italy helped a lot with
Germany’s friendship building, but what about Japan? Didn’t he help too? He’s
not the left over of an hot fudge sundae.

A: If you go back to the post, I say that Italy brings out the kindness in Germany. Italy does the same exact thing with Japan, who he views to be too formal.

The Axis learn new things and complement each other in their friendship. In that sense, Japan and Germany, as recluses, learn to open themselves up to the idea of friendship and companionship within their trio. They were always kind and considerate. Italy just has a knack for bringing out the best in people.

If Italy was to be removed from the dynamic, I really don’t think that you’d see the same kind of development between Germany and Japan.

Q & A

Q: Would you say you’ve
gotten better at history ever since Hetalia?

A: Definitely. It’s also extended my interest in politics and world affairs. The cherry on top is that the series inspires so many people to create and improve their artistic skills.

Q: Why would anyone think
England and France hate each other? They obviously care for each other :/

A: Because people will warp anything if it means elevating their ship. France and England are frenemies [x]. They get on each other’s nerves but they nonetheless possess a deep respect for each other.

Or, my personal favourite…

Q: What’s Romano’s severity level? When ever you
do psych posts, you always neglect the level of severity. I doubt his is so bad
he’d try to kill himself as fanon loves to do, plus it’,s out of character. I
should note, that North babying him might be because in the past it was mostly
politicians in the North who ran the country, and the Northern stereotypes for
the South. However, not so nowadays. It seems both brothers are on board to
rebel against the EU.

A: I don’t really see how I could neglect something if that’s not what my psych-talia posts are focused on. I don’t diagnose or use specific DSM labels. I use general theories and apply them to the characters.

Likewise, I typically give disclaimers at the beginning of the post citing what models I use. Just to give you an example, how would I fit severity in Freudian or attachment theory if it’s not even mentioned? There’s no severity indicator for an inferiority complex either…it’s a concept that can’t be measured.

Even so, I’m not quite sure what you mean by severity given that it can mean different things depending on which diagnostic label is applicable. The spectrums for each condition vary.

No, of course not. Romano’s completely sure of himself and confident when he’s not around Veneziano. I agree on that last point too. Hima directly incorporates both Italy brothers wanting to leave the EU in chapters 231-232 of World Stars.

Q: I don’t understand why people want the Italies
to be part of the mafia so much. As an Italian I find it so cringe worthy. It’s
2018 and you guys out there still romanticize mafia and think is cool, despite
many italians on this website explained more than once why you shouldn’t. I
would like to thank admin for her post it was so important,it’s actually
amazing seeing Romano in canon trying to fight them

A: I’m glad I could help.

What really causes this misconception to thrive is that the majority of the fanbase have not read the manga. If they did, they would know that Romano is often coerced to do things for the Mafia, aside from the one time that he stood up to them. Regardless, he recognizes that they’re evil and despises them. I think that says more than enough [x].

Q: The mochi are best used to send to friends as
memes, especially the daddy one oh god

A: I feel like you would appreciate more of these… [x]
