You touched on the Italy brothers not really getting along. What about during their childhood? I know they were isolated from each other, but is their any strip where they actually act like brothers?

You’re right. They didn’t have much interaction, but there
is this one strip where Austria and Spain host a playdate.

Things weren’t really that tense between them until after Unification.
Even so, I think the fact that their curls lock together might hint at how deep
down, they’ll still always love each other.

Dear Mean Anon, please feel free to show some freaking common decency! Love, someone who’s been harassed online and it freaking sucks. Dear Ella, We love you to death. Ignore Mean Anon. YOU ARE NOT A SELF-ADVERTISING HOE. You’re a self-advertising writer. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. (Dear god knows I self-advertise my own content wayyy too much. #BlessThisMess)

❤ Omg guys, I can’t. I just choked on
my apple and made the ugliest squeaking sound. I coughed so hard I almost lost
a contact lens, oops. Euthanize me.

I’m really sorry to hear that, though. Personally,
things like this don’t phase me; I can’t be bothered. I know what I want, and I’ll work as hard as I
need to in order to get it. Hopefully that time of your life is behind you, and if
not, ignore those punks.

Oh
lol. I just have a weird sense of humour. I like poking fun at myself. There’s
nothing wrong with self-advertising at all!

Hey Ella are we allowed to tag you into stuff related to the fandom (so you can give your opinion on it or maybe spread it a little, if you want) or, if we know that somebody has already written an analysis/theory you’re planning on doing, can we point them out to you? (not sayin that you shouldn’t write that theory in any case, because you’d probably have a different spin or more complete view, however seeing the other one could be an insight on some common misconceptions)

Okay, woah. If this is a
packed ask if I’ve ever seen one haha. Here’s the packed answer:

By all means, feel free
to tag me. Although, I have trouble keeping up with my notifications, so
that’s where a message would probably come in handy. I’m very limited in my
capacity, though, and am not online for long periods of time.

Yay! Someone finally
gets it! One of my biggest pet peeves is when people think that if a topic’s
been covered, then others aren’t free to talk about it. NO! NO! NO! That’s not a discussion; it’s
an entitled dictation. The whole point of a fandom is to offer more voices and
thoughts, not close them off.

As long as you’re not merely repeating what
the other person said and have nothing new to offer, then anyone should feel
inclined to talk about the same subject. There is no “original” theorist in
this fandom. People have been coming up with headcanons and interpretations
ever since its inception, let’s be real here. What matters again is if original ideas are
added to complement or oppose the already existing ones.

That said, anything I
talk about is 100% free game for other people to discuss, analyze, and
interpret.

As for the
misconceptions, I’m ambivalent. I think people have to understand that slight alterations in the interpretations
of the characters are inevitable. Overly strict “canon-police” types bug me in the sense that they feel the need to dictate and rudely scrutinize
every trivial detail of another person’s depiction of the characters. People like that have
no right to impinge on how others enjoy the fandom, nor do those who take
artistic liberties have the right to force their interpretation onto others.

Don’t like the
interpretation? Show some maturity and ignore it. Not everyone is going to
share your opinion and it’s not up to you to control what they do or don’t do with the characters.

On the other hand, if
the misconception is so huge that it completely botches the character/plot and either
spreads misinformation or hate, only then do I believe it’s important to step
in, politely. There’s also a difference when someone acknowledges that they’re departing from canon and gives the correct information before doing so.

Also… I don’t want you guys to think of me as some kind of holy expert or anything. I’m not and haven’t ever claimed to be. My word isn’t law: I want you guys to think for yourselves and show some discretion of your own 🙂

Have you discovered anything more on Germany? I just read all your theories/posts and now I don’t know what to do with myself.

Okay, so you know when
Holy Rome says farewell to Chibitalia and leaves to go to war?

I’ll definitely come see you when the fight is over.”

image

Assuming that Holy
Rome was reincarnated into Germany, the fight never really ended.

Germany was literally
born into war, which could possibly explain why he didn’t meet (see) Italy until WW1. Remember that they didn’t purposefully cross paths then.

image

Likewise, in Buon San
Valentino (which takes place during WW2), Germany also makes a mention of his
war-torn upbringing.

I suspect that Hima
might use the above phrase and place a fun little spin on it. The wars are
over and Germany is united with Italy, but until Germany remembers his past,
Holy Rome’s promise won’t be fulfilled.

Germany needs to come
back to Italy as Holy Rome, with the latter’s memories intact, if he’s to truly see
and recognize Italy as Chibitalia.

Side note: “I’ll make
lots of sweets for your return.”

You know who else really likes his sweets? Germany. I mean… he has an entire
character song dedicated to baking a cake.

Bro…………… My dude……. I love your blog. I especially love your stuff explaining how Freud relates to Hetalia! Like sheesh I thought I was outta the fandom for good BUT it turns out Hetalia still owns my ass. As a fellow Canadian, I was also wondering if you have any theories/thoughts about the personification of Canada? I think it’d be interesting to see more of your thoughts on him!

image

No worries!
Leave it to another fellow Canadian to give our personification more visibility 😉

While I’ll
omit and save more detailed mentions of Canada’s childhood for another post, it’s
still important to shed light on his insecurities…and BOY is he ever full of
them.

That said,
I think it’s important to understand that while the nations represent their
people, they’re also people themselves. Like us, they’ve had experiences – both
good and bad – that not only shape who they are but also how they interact with
others.

What I’m
trying to say is that some of their personality traits are a cumulative historical product, rather than one that is reflective of their present
national stereotypes. Canada is self-deprecating as a result of years of perceiving himself as inferior.

Post coming
up tonight!

What are the rules of nationhood?

I’ve compiled a reference guide for those new to the fandom or who just want to brush up on the material. I refer to these chapters/strips all the time.

World Stars Chapter 1
– Outlines how the nations exist, die, and can possibly be reincarnated.

World Stars Chapter 12
– Germany’s birth (German Unification)

World Stars Chapter 20 – Italian Unification: Gives the reason for why Italy has two personifications, while also differentiating it from German Unification.

World Stars Chapter 114
– Iceland’s birth: Depicts how the nations can randomly appear one day.

It’s a Treasure Box of Countries:

– What happens to a nation when they lose their status as a personification.
– Why and how micro-nations exist.
– How new micro-nations form. (Lavonia, Molossia etc.)
– How humans can achieve micro-nation status (NikoNiko)
– What happens when a human who gains micro-nation status relinquishes it (NikoNiko)

2013-2014 Halloween Event:

– How humans can achieve micro-nation status (NikoNiko)
– What happens to NikoNiko after he becomes human again.
