Hey Ella! Perhaps you can help me answer this question… I have seen fics equate various nation’s body parts to physical locations in their country (and even one inanimate object – America’s glasses being Texas). Is this canon or fanon? Thanks!

It’s canon. Information like that can be found on wiki articles. However, there’s an interesting fiddling with the idea of Cartesian Dualism that I’d like to discuss in depth.

Post coming up tonight!

Biggest pet peeves?

-When rude people fall back on the excuse of “being honest.”
You can be honest without being an asshole.

-When people proudly claim to be a “stone-cold bitch” or
something along those lines. Your ‘edgy’ negativity doesn’t make you ‘cool’ or ‘inspiring’.
It’s not something any decent person would be proud of.

-People who are rude to service sector employees and feel
entitled to talk down to them – Worked
there, done that. It was the most humbling and degrading experiences of my
life.

Thank you! 😀 (what would they have been called before lol?)

You’re very welcome. They should be the ones shook for blindly making unsubstantiated assumptions. Hetalia has been rightly judged for its early years;  nonetheless, the series has always worked to subvert racist narratives.

A number of reasons.

One, people are still reading them, and I don’t have the heart
to rip away the content.

Two, painful as it may be in hindsight, they chart my
progress as a writer.

Three, it charts the progress of my character. Looking back
at some of the author’s notes, I can tell that I was coming from a really angry
and anxious place. I’ve mellowed out considerably in the last few years.

Four, it holds me accountable. Some of the jokes or characterizations
I made could have been handled with more sensitivity.

As mentioned before, a lot of my characterization posts
include mistakes that I made. I’m not coming from a ‘holier-than-thou’
perspective.

It’s more like “hey,
from one past (??) dumbass to
another, don’t do this.”

No worries, friend. I explained more in the tags, but I guess you didn’t see them.

Basically, the project is me setting up a fake profile and analyzing the types of responses that I receive. I’m not responding to them, nor will I waste their time other than the initial reach out.

I chose discourse analysis, and, using a feminist lens, I’ll be seeing how gender relations are implicated in what they say. Language is always performative.

Believe me, no ethics board in their right mind would allow me to go undercover in person, let alone the fact that I wouldn’t dream of doing so. Ew.

Thank you! Since I’m in Criminology, I’m considering analyzing how crime is sensationalized, even fetishized, in fics, or I could take a community root and collect opinions on how people interact online and how they negotiate the risks of facing potential predators.

Someone I know is totally convinced that England and America are biologically related, when I’m pretty sure they’re not.

They’re not biologically related.

England is said to be the son of four siblings, which
includes Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Yes. Though England is the United Kingdom, when he comes back home, he becomes the fourth son of four siblings. His older brothers, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, are three people.”

Sure thing! I’ve wanted to discuss potential/ mystery characters
for a while now.

And yes. That wiki page is very confusing because at times
it’s right “Official identities have not been revealed” and other times, it’s
wrong “This is Scotland, this is Wales etc.” Those pages aren’t reliable since
anyone can edit them.
